Graphite tape (TRG ribbon) is in essence a roll material produced by cutting a thermally-expanded graphite foil. It is supplied in rolls from 4mm wide and 60 — 100 meters long.
Graphite tape is used for:
- Restoration of metal rings of oval and octagonal cross-sections,
- Formation of a gasket on the flange,
- Restoration of damaged seals,
- Restoration of flange surface,
- Repair of camprofile gaskets by sticking a required amount of graphite tape on the damaged area,
- Thread sealing.

Advantages
- Owing to unique combination of good sealing ability, practical absence of leakage and high compression strength, the tape may be used for sealing the large-size flange connectors at a pressure of up to 20 MPa and above.
- TRG ribbons offer a convenient and practical solution of problems in sealing large-sized flange connectors. The possibility of making a tape with a preset bending radius and with a sticky (self-adhesive) layer allows quick and easy mounting of seals even in the constrained conditions and on vertically arranged surfaces.
- High heat resistance of the item allows using the ribbon at a temperature of up to 650 °C. Thermally expanded graphite practically does not lose its volume and mass in the course of time, especially in compressed state, while asbestos-containing seals lose the mass as a result of changing chemical composition even in vacuum. The ribbon preserves its unique sealing properties within the temperature range of – 240 to +650 °С during the whole service life and does not require any additional retorque (refer to the article for the list of operating environments using graphite seals).
- TRG ribbon is a universal sealing material as it features high chemical resistance to practically any environment, except for strong oxidizing agents.
