GASKETS WITH CORRUGATED METAL CORE PUTGM

Spec.TU 5728 - 013 - 93978201 - 2008

The gasket is composed of a corrugated thin-sheet metal layer (base) resembling a wave (sinusoid) in its cross-section, cladded with soft material (foil TRG,PTFE, etc.).
The geometry of the metal base is aimed at reaching the best recovery characteristics. Pitch, angle of wave rise and base thickness are designed so as to make the seal maximally capable of getting over the difficulties connected with a torque retention loss under the influence of pressure drops and thermocycling. Besides, the wavy base provides for the best compensation of irregularities, nonflatness of flanges and uneven tightening, in doing so the concentric asperities create an additional labyrinth seal effect and act as a mechanical support preventing the radial displacement of cladding material during compression.   Owing to a great variety of base and cladding materials, Sealing gaskets of thermally expanded graphite may be used for solving sealing problems in the range of temperatures varying from cryogenic temperature to 1000°C and pressures from vacuum to 40 MPa (refer to the article to learn about the list of operating environments where graphite sealing may be used). The unique characteristics of wavy based PUTGm gaskets make it possible to use them as a direct substitute for spiral-wound gaskets and additionally solve the problems connected with a low holding power of large-size SNP gaskets and instability of inner turns, thus providing the sealing under moderate loads to flanges. Gaskets with corrugated metal core PUTGm gaskets are the best choice for flanges where permissible loads to the studs are minimal (e.g. flanges ASME class 150 and 300).     At request, PUTGm gaskets on a wavy metal base may be made of non-standard sizes, of round, square, rectangular, and oval shape and with any kinds of jumpers.
